John "Kung Fu" Wang and Tree-Hugging

This is a curious short film. Its subject is clearly a proponent of the “more is better” and “more crazy is more better” schools of training. I by no means recommend spending several years attempting to hang from a tree as a way of improving your harai goshi throw, indeed, I recommend against it, on the basis that harai goshi doesn’t involve prolonged isometric holding of the position in question, and is easier if you haven’t destroyed your knees and elbows. But this is sort of interesting anyway.

Also, John Wang seems to have invented the “right-click” mouse button. Who knew?

  1. I wonder how much success he would find in his training if he worked more on doing the throw with an actual person. Bet he’s gotten splinters in some pretty weird places over the years…
